6-20-15

Massive catch-up post.  I've been in the midst of an unexpected change of employment and the blog has been the last of my concerns.  There still has been a fair amount of activity, so here is a recap on whats been going on.

Torch ('06)

The rebuild is complete on this car.  On 5/5/15 John, Ian, Jason and myself took it out to Camden for a shakedown.  Overall a the car did well except for a broken shifter cable, the balance of the day it ran in 2nd gear without issue.  Jason also brought Steamy out for the day.

With the shifter cable replaced, the next outing for the '06 was the Test-n-Tune on 5/23/15 at the Wilmington Pad.  I did one run on the course and then spent time on the lollipop and skid pad.  This car is an absolute blast to drive!  John was taking it for a run on the course when the left drive-shaft broke at the starting line.  The bolts holding the titanium adapter to the stub axle had sheared. This was an eventuality that we were expecting as it had occurred in the past and the design had not been altered.

To hopefully stop this failure occurring again, the titanium adapter has been replaced on both sides by a 4140 ring welded to the stub axle and the shoulder bolts have been replaced by through bolts.  The shoulder bolts are still in use on the differential side and will also be eventually changed.  Another upgrade was the addition of seals for the wheel bearings.  Here are some pictures of the new installation.

Congress ('12) aka Murphy, aka Glass Ass, aka ....

Ian shook down the '12 for the first time since the rebuild on 5/5/15.  Some adjustment to the tune were necessary at the start of the day, but then the car ran like a champ.

A blown head gasket did eventually end the day for the '12, but it was a blast to see that car running around Camden after all the work Ian, John and others have put into that car.  After a repair of the head gasket the Test-n-Tune on 5-23-15 was the next event.  Unfortunately the car started, but then stopped and wouldn't re-fire so Ian and Dan had to have fun in street cars instead.
